BAFTA Fellowship
Presented by British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)
Country United Kingdom
First awarded 1971

The BAFTA Fellowship is a very special award given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It's like a "lifetime achievement" award. This means it celebrates someone's amazing work over many years in movies, TV shows, or video games.

This award is the highest honor BAFTA can give. It has been given out every year since 1971. Most of the people who receive it are film directors. But it also goes to actors, producers (for movies and TV), cinematographers (who film movies), film editors, and screenwriters (who write scripts). Since 2007, people who have done great things in the video game world can also receive this award.

In 2002, a company called Merchant Ivory Productions became the first group, not just a person, to win the award. Most winners are from the United Kingdom. However, many are from the United States, and some are from other countries in Europe. In 2010, Shigeru Miyamoto from Japan became the first person from an Asian country to get the award. He is famous for creating video games like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.

The very first person to receive the BAFTA Fellowship was the famous filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in 1971. Some awards have been given after a person passed away. For example, the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise received it in 1999. Stanley Kubrick, another famous filmmaker, received his award in 2000, after he died that same year. So far, 88 men and 17 women have won this special award.
