The BAFTA Fellowship is a very special award. It's given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). This award celebrates people who have done amazing things. They are recognized for their work in movies, TV shows, and video games.
It's the highest honor BAFTA can give. The award has been given out every year since 1971. Most winners are film directors. But it also goes to actors, producers, and writers. Since 2007, people who create video games can also win.
In 2002, a company called Merchant Ivory Productions won. This was the first time an organization received the award. Many winners are from the United Kingdom. But people from the U.S. and other countries have also won. In 2010, Shigeru Miyamoto from Japan won. He is famous for creating video games like Mario.
The very first winner was filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. Some awards have been given after a person passed away. This happened for the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise in 1999. It also happened for Stanley Kubrick in 2000.
Many talented people have received this award. Most winners have been men. A smaller number of women have also been honored. One award given in 2012 was later taken back.
