Flora and fauna of Pakistan facts for kids
The vast plains of the Indus River used to be covered in plants. But now, much of this land is used to grow crops. Because of this, not many wild animals live there anymore. You might still find animals like the jackal, mongoose, jungle cat, civet cat, scaly anteater, desert cat, and wild hare in these areas.
Some parts of the Thal desert and Cholistan desert are now being watered, which is called irrigation. The Chinkara, a type of gazelle, is one of the few animals that still lives there. The blackbuck, which used to be very common, is now extinct in the wild in Pakistan. However, people are working hard to bring them back to the country.
New forests are being planted in irrigated areas. These new forests are great places for animals like the chinkara, hog deer, and blue bull to live.
The striped hyena and the wolf can be found almost everywhere in Pakistan. However, we don't know much about how many black bears and brown bears there are.
Birds that hunt, like the peregrine and saker falcons, tawny eagle, imperial and greater spotted eagles, osprey, shikra, and black-winged kite, live all over Pakistan. But just like with the bears, we don't know how many of these birds there are.
