List of Sonic the Hedgehog characters facts for kids

The Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise started in 1991. The first game was Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. It featured a blue hedgehog named Sonic. He fought against a round human villain named Doctor Eggman (also known as Doctor Ivo Robotnik).
The next game, Sonic 2, introduced Sonic's fox friend, Tails. Sonic CD brought in Amy Rose, a pink hedgehog who really likes Sonic. Sonic 3 introduced Knuckles the Echidna, who started as Sonic's rival but later became his friend. These five characters are still very important and have been in many games.
Over the years, many other characters have joined the series. Some are animal characters like Shadow the Hedgehog and Cream the Rabbit. Others are robots made by Eggman, such as Metal Sonic and E-123 Omega. There are also human characters like Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. The games also feature special creatures like Chao, Wisps, and Koco. Chao are like digital pets. Wisps give characters special power-ups. Koco give Sonic new abilities.
The Sonic games have their own stories. These are separate from the Sonic the Hedgehog comics and other Sonic shows. Because of this, the characters can be a bit different, but many are the same.
