List of mountain peaks of Arizona facts for kids
- Further information: Geography of Arizona
This article is all about the major mountain peaks in the state of Arizona, U.S.. We'll look at three different ways to measure mountains: how high they are, how much they stand out from their surroundings, and how far they are from other tall peaks.
When we talk about how big a mountain is, we usually measure it in three main ways:
- Elevation: This is how high the top of the mountain is above sea level. Think of it like measuring from the ocean's surface straight up to the peak. The first table below shows the 20 tallest major mountains in Arizona by their elevation.
- Prominence: This measures how much a mountain rises above the land right around it. Imagine you're at the lowest point you'd have to cross to get from one mountain to a taller one. Prominence is the height from that low point to the mountain's peak. The second table below lists the 20 most prominent mountains in Arizona.
- Isolation: This tells us how far a mountain is from the nearest other mountain that's just as tall or even taller. It's like finding the distance to its closest "rival" in height. The third table below ranks the 20 most isolated major mountains in Arizona.

Mountains That Stand Out the Most
Some mountains really stand out from the land around them! In Arizona, five peaks are considered "ultra-prominent" because they rise more than 1500 meters (4921 feet) from their surroundings. Also, 18 peaks have a prominence of over 1000 meters (3281 feet).

Most Isolated Mountains
Some mountains are quite far from other peaks that are just as tall! Humphreys Peak and Baldy Peak are super isolated, more than 200 kilometers (124.3 miles) from any equally tall mountain. Seven peaks are isolated by over 100 kilometers (62.14 miles).
