The National Hockey League All-Star Team is a special honor given each year to the best players in the league. Since the 1930–31 NHL season, the top players at each position are chosen for this award. It's like creating a dream team for the season.
At the end of every regular season, members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association vote for the players they think were the best. They select a "First Team" and a "Second Team," each with a goalie, two defensemen, a center, and two wingers.

Legendary Players
Some players have been chosen for the All-Star Team many times.
- Gordie Howe holds the record with 21 selections. He was on the First Team 12 times and the Second Team 9 times, all while playing for the Detroit Red Wings.
- Alexander Ovechkin once made history by being named to both the First and Second Teams in the same season. This happened because of a mistake in voting where he got votes for both left and right wing.
- Almost every player who won the Hart Memorial Trophy (the award for the league's most valuable player) was also named to an All-Star Team in the same year.
How to Read the Tables
The tables below show every player selected for the All-Star Teams since 1931. Here is what the symbols mean:
^ | This marks players who are still active in the NHL. |
* | This marks players who are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. |
† | This marks players who are no longer active but are not yet eligible for the Hall of Fame. |
Player (X) | The number in parentheses shows how many times a player has been selected. |

This marks players who also won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player that same year. |
Selections by Era
Early Years (1930–31 to 1941–42)
This was the first era of the NHL All-Star Team. Legends like Eddie Shore and King Clancy were among the first players to be honored.

Original Six Era (1942–43 to 1966–67)
During this period, the NHL had only six teams. This era saw some of the greatest players ever, like Maurice "The Rocket" Richard and Gordie Howe, who were chosen for the All-Star team many times.

Expansion and Modern Eras (1967–Present)
The NHL began to add more teams in 1967. This "expansion era" brought new superstars like Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, and Mario Lemieux. After a league shutdown in 2004-05, the "post-lockout era" began, featuring modern stars like Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.
