List of rivers of Germany facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Germany is a country in Europe with many important rivers. This article lists rivers that are at least partly in Germany. Rivers that flow into the sea are listed by their location along the coast. Rivers that flow into other rivers are listed based on how close they join the main river to the sea.

Some rivers, like the Meuse, don't flow through Germany themselves. However, they are mentioned here because they have smaller rivers from Germany flowing into them. Only rivers longer than 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) are included.

Germany's rivers flow into three different seas:

The most important rivers in Germany are:

  • The Oder, which flows into the Baltic Sea.
  • The Danube, which flows into the Black Sea. Its main smaller rivers (called tributaries) are the Inn, Isar, and Lech.
  • The Rhine, Weser, and Elbe, which flow into the North Sea. The Rhine's main tributaries are the Moselle, Main, and Neckar. The Elbe's main tributaries are the Havel and Saale.
