Barnesville Commercial Historic District

Imagine walking through a town where the buildings look much like they did many years ago! The Barnesville Commercial Historic District is one of those places. It includes many old shops and buildings in the heart of Barnesville. This area is roughly bordered by College, Taylor, and Market Streets, and the old Central of Georgia railroad tracks. It was added to the National Register in 1995.

Barnesville Depot

The Barnesville Depot is an old train station located at Plaza Way and Main Street in Barnesville. It was built in 1912, which means it's over 100 years old! Train stations were once very busy places where people traveled and goods were shipped. This historic depot was added to the National Register in 1986.

Carnegie Library of Barnesville

Have you ever heard of Andrew Carnegie? He was a very rich businessman who helped build many libraries across the United States. The Carnegie Library of Barnesville is one of them! It's located on Library Street in Barnesville. This beautiful old library joined the National Register in 1987.

Benjamin Gachet House

The Benjamin Gachet House is an interesting old home located about three miles west of Barnesville on Georgia Highway 18. This house has been around for a long time and holds many stories from the past. It was recognized for its historical importance and added to the National Register in 1997.

Johnstonville-Goggins Historic District

Another special area is the Johnstonville-Goggins Historic District. You can find it on Johnstonville Road, west of Interstate 75 in Johnstonville. A "historic district" means it's not just one building, but a whole area with many old buildings that are important together. This district was added to the National Register in 2000.

Lamar County Courthouse

The Lamar County Courthouse is a very important building in Barnesville. It's where many of the county's official activities happen. Courthouses are often grand buildings that show the history of a community. This one is on Thomaston Street and was added to the National Register in 1980.

Redbone Community House

The Redbone Community House is a place where people from the Redbone community could gather. It's located at the corner of Community House Road and Sappington Road near Barnesville. Thomaston Street Historic District

Just like the Barnesville Commercial Historic District, the Thomaston Street Historic District is another area in Barnesville with many historic buildings. It includes parts of Thomaston and Greenwood Streets, and Stafford and Georgia Avenues. This district was added to the National Register in 1995.
