The 1796 British general election chose the people who would represent different areas in the Parliament of Great Britain. This election was a big deal because it was the last one before Great Britain joined with Ireland to form the United Kingdom in 1801.

The Parliament chosen in 1796 was the 18th Parliament of Great Britain. It had 558 Members of Parliament (MPs) who represented 314 different areas, called constituencies. When there was a competition for a seat, the person who won the most votes got the job.
