Andrei Cătălin Stoica (born May 1, 1987) is a famous Romanian kickboxer. He competes in the Light Heavyweight division. Andrei was the first person to win the SUPERKOMBAT Super Cruiserweight Championship. He also holds the record for defending that title the most times in a row!

Andrei Stoica was ranked among the top light-heavyweight fighters in the world. This was during his time as the SUPERKOMBAT Super Cruiserweight Champion. He is also a three-time national champion and a European champion in wushu. Wushu is a type of Chinese martial arts.

He has fought in many big kickboxing events. These include K-1, Glory, LEGEND, Dynamite Fighting Show, and ONE Championship. He even challenged for the ONE Light Heavyweight Championship. As of January 1, 2023, he is ranked as the #10 heavyweight kickboxer globally.

About Andrei Stoica

Andrei's dad was a boxer, so fighting was in his blood! Andrei started training in judo when he was 11 years old. Later, at 17, he switched to wushu and kickboxing. He trained in Bucharest, Romania, for his whole career.

He first trained at Respect Gym. There, he worked with other great kickboxers. These included his brother Bogdan Stoica, Benjamin Adegbuyi, and others. In 2018, Andrei opened his own gym. It's called Stoica Brothers Fight Academy. He trains there now with boxing coach Andrei Mircea.

Kickboxing Career Highlights

Starting with SUPERKOMBAT

In November 2010, SUPERKOMBAT announced they had signed Andrei and his younger brother, Bogdan. The chairman, Eduard Irimia, believed they could become top fighters.

On February 25, 2012, Andrei fought Redouan Cairo again. This was at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix in Podgorica, Montenegro. The fight was first announced as a win for Stoica. But officials later changed it to a no contest. This was because the judges actually scored it a draw.

Andrei then faced Toni Milanović in Arad, Romania, on October 20, 2012. He won against the Croatian fighter by a split decision.

He was supposed to fight Zabit Samedov for the first SUPERKOMBAT Super Cruiserweight Championship. This was at the 2012 Final in Bucharest. But Samedov got sick. So, Arnold Oborotov stepped in. The fight became a title eliminator. Andrei knocked Oborotov out in the first round.

Fighting in K-1

Andrei fought Agron Preteni in Zagreb, Croatia, on March 15, 2013. He lost this fight by a unanimous decision. Andrei was doing well until Preteni knocked him down in the second round. This changed the fight's direction.

He won by knockout in the second round against Zinedine Hameur-Lain. This fight was at SUPERKOMBAT New Heroes 5 in Târgoviște, Romania, on August 30, 2013. He also knocked out Dženan Poturak in the second round on September 28, 2013.

Becoming a Champion

Andrei fought Ondřej Hutník on December 21, 2013. He won by unanimous decision. This made him the new SUPERKOMBAT Super Cruiserweight Champion!

Challenges in GLORY

On April 12, 2014, Andrei was knocked out by Danyo Ilunga. This was at GLORY 15 in Istanbul, Turkey. Both fighters landed strong hits in the first round. But Ilunga landed a powerful punch that knocked Andrei out. Before this fight, Andrei trained with Alexander Gustafsson in Stockholm, Sweden.

Andrei was set to defend his SUPERKOMBAT title against Boy Boy Martin. But Martin pulled out, and Ali Cenik replaced him. Andrei defeated Cenik by unanimous decision to keep his title.

He had his second title defense on October 25, 2014. He faced Moises Baute and won by knockout in the third round. This win earned him "Fight of the Year" and "Knockout of The Year" awards for 2014!

Andrei continued his winning streak. He defeated Emilio Vallecillo by TKO in the first round on November 22, 2014. He also won against Marcello Adriaansz by unanimous decision on March 7, 2015.

On May 23, 2015, Andrei fought Thomas Alizier in his hometown. He won by knockout in the second round. He then defeated Abdarhmane Coulibaly by unanimous decision on July 19, 2015.

On August 1, 2015, Andrei defended his title again. He knocked out Fred Sikking in the first round. He said after the win, "This belt is mine."

He fought Pavel Voronin on October 2, 2015. Andrei won by unanimous decision, making it his eighth win in a row.

However, he lost his title defense against Jorge Loren on November 7, 2015. Loren won by TKO in the first round.

After SUPERKOMBAT

Andrei then fought Mladen Kujundžić on March 19, 2016. He lost this fight by TKO in the first round. But he quickly bounced back! He won his next fight by knocking out Antonio Souza with a low kick in the first round.

He then fought Tomáš Hron for a championship title. Hron won the fight by unanimous decision.

After this loss, Andrei went on a four-fight winning streak. He defeated Pavel Voronin, George Davis, Ivan Bartek, and Sahak Parparyan. His streak ended when he lost to Donegi Abena. But he quickly won again against Tomas Steponkevicius.

In September 2018, Andrei joined the WFL Heavyweight tournament. He won his first fight but lost in the semifinals.

Back in Romania, he fought twice for Dynamite Fighting Show. He won both fights, one by decision and one by first-round knockout. As of November 7, 2018, he was ranked #7 light-heavyweight in the world.

Joining ONE Championship

On March 9, 2019, Andrei Stoica made his debut in ONE Championship. He fought Tarik Khbabez and lost by unanimous decision.

He returned on April 12, 2019, and faced Ibrahim El Bouni. Andrei won this fight by unanimous decision.

On December 6, 2019, Andrei fought Anderson Silva. This fight was very important for a world title shot. Andrei quickly knocked out Silva in the first round! After this win, Andrei wanted to challenge Roman Kryklia for the ONE Kickboxing Light Heavyweight World Championship. Their fight was planned but got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Andrei also had a third fight with Pavel Voronin in December 2020. He won by split decision. This fight was so close that a rematch was booked for 2021.

Fighting for the Title

Andrei was set to fight Roman Kryklia for the ONE Kickboxing Light Heavyweight title. This fight had been postponed three times! When it finally happened on December 18, 2020, Kryklia won by unanimous decision. Many people thought Andrei wasn't fully prepared for this important fight.

Comeback Fights

Andrei returned to ONE Championship on April 22, 2022. He faced Giannis Stoforidis and won by split decision. On February 25, 2023, he fought Françesco Xhaja and lost by split decision.
