Levi's Stadium is a modern sports stadium located in Santa Clara, California. It is best known as the home field for the San Francisco 49ers, a famous American football team. The stadium officially opened its doors on July 17, 2014.

This stadium is a very large venue. It can hold 68,500 people for most events. However, for bigger events, it can be expanded to fit up to 75,000 fans! Building Levi's Stadium cost about $1.27 billion.

Stadium History

Levi's Stadium has hosted many exciting events since it opened.

First Games

The very first game played at Levi's Stadium was not a football match. It was a soccer game! On August 2, 2014, the San Jose Earthquakes played against the Seattle Sounders in an MLS league match. The Earthquakes won that game 1-0.

Big Football Games

Just one year after it opened, Levi's Stadium hosted one of the biggest events in American sports: Super Bowl 50. This huge championship game took place in 2016.

The stadium also saw its first NFL playoff games after the 2019 season. The San Francisco 49ers played their first playoff game there against the Minnesota Vikings. Later, they hosted the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers won both of these important games at home.

Stadium Features

Levi's Stadium was designed with many modern features. It has 174 special executive suites. These are private boxes where groups can watch games in comfort. The stadium is also known for being environmentally friendly.
