Main Characters from Lilo & Stitch

Stitch (Experiment 626)

Stitch (also known as Experiment 626) is one of the two main characters of the Lilo & Stitch stories. He was first created by a crazy alien scientist, Dr. Jumba Jookiba. Stitch was made to cause lots of trouble and chaos across the whole galaxy.

Stitch is known for his short temper and playful, mischievous actions. These traits are actually why his best friend, Lilo, loves him so much. Lilo adopted him as her "dog". The voice of Stitch is done by his creator and one of the film's directors, Chris Sanders.

Lilo Pelekai is the other main character of the series. Her name means "lost" in Hawaiian. She is a young Native Hawaiian girl who lives on the island of Kauaʻi. She lives with her older sister Nani and their adopted alien family. Daveigh Chase provides her voice in most of the films and the TV series.

Lilo has long, straight black hair and brown eyes. She often wears a muʻumuʻu and sandals. She also wears traditional hula costumes. Lilo looks a lot like her mother when she was young.

Lilo has a very unique and lively personality. Because her parents passed away, she sometimes feels different from other kids. However, this makes her the perfect best friend for Stitch. Lilo loves to take pictures of tourists and learn about creatures from sci-fi movies. She also enjoys finding and helping Jumba's alien experiments.

Lilo is a big fan of Elvis Presley. This part of her character was inspired by the film's director, Chris Sanders, who also likes Elvis. Lilo's parents died in a car accident before the first movie. She keeps a picture of them under her pillow.

Lilo's mother was kind and loving. She would have family nights and sing lullabies. Lilo's father played the ukulele. He created the famous phrase: ʻOhana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. This phrase becomes a special motto for Lilo and her adopted alien family.

Lilo's family, or ʻohana, grows throughout the series. It includes Nani, "Uncle" Jumba, "Aunt" Pleakley, David, Cobra Bubbles, the Grand Councilwoman, Victoria, and all of Stitch's "cousins." Even Gantu and Mertle eventually become part of her ʻohana.

In the Stitch! anime series, Lilo is not a main character. She appears as an adult in one episode, visiting Okinawa with her daughter, Ani. Ani looks just like Lilo did as a child. Lilo and Stitch have a happy reunion, showing they still care deeply for each other.

Scrump

Scrump
First appearance Lilo & Stitch (2002)
Created by Chris Sanders
Voiced by Nancy Cartwright (under Experiment 375/Phantasmo's possession in Lilo & Stitch: The Series)
Species Inanimate rag doll
Gender N/A (feminine pronouns)

Scrump is Lilo's special rag doll that she made herself. Lilo treats Scrump like a real girl. Scrump is a green doll with a big head, different sized button eyes, a crooked mouth, and straw "hair" tied with a pink bow. Lilo often holds Scrump for comfort.

In the first movie, Lilo tries to play with Mertle and her friends using Scrump. But the other girls, who have normal-looking dolls, get scared by Scrump and run away. Lilo gets upset but quickly goes back to pick up her doll, hugging "her." Later, Stitch uses Scrump to make a bomb during his fight with Jumba.

Scrump is important in the Lilo & Stitch: The Series episode "Phantasmo." In this episode, Experiment 375, a green ghost-like alien, takes control of Scrump. The experiment uses the doll to cause trouble in Lilo's house, making it look like Stitch is to blame. Stitch tries to tell Lilo that Scrump is the problem, and Lilo eventually believes him when she sees the doll destroy Pleakley's plant.

In the Stitch! anime series, the adult Lilo gives Scrump to her daughter, Ani.

Occupation
  • Former luau waitress (Lilo & Stitch)
  • Surfboard rental shack clerk (sequel films, Lilo & Stitch: The Series)

Nani Pelekai is Lilo Pelekai's older sister and her legal guardian. She works hard to support herself and Lilo financially and as a parent. This means she is often very busy and stressed. She loves Lilo very much but sometimes struggles to understand her unique personality.

Nani often gives good advice in the movies and show. It was Nani who let Lilo adopt Stitch from the animal shelter, where he was mistaken for a dog. Tia Carrere voices Nani in the films and Lilo & Stitch: The Series.

Because of her stress, Nani can get easily annoyed by Lilo and Stitch's antics. These often make it hard for her to keep a steady job. She frequently has to deal with problems caused by Lilo, Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley. Her busy life also makes it difficult to have a normal relationship with David Kawena, a local surfer who is her friend and later boyfriend. Nani is also known for her bad cooking! Her biggest fear is losing Lilo to social workers like Cobra Bubbles. She learns to trust and respect Cobra after the first movie.

Occupation
  • Scientist

Spouse(s) Unnamed ex-wife

Dr. Jumba Jookiba is the alien scientist who created Stitch and all his "cousins." He is a large, purple-skinned alien with four yellow eyes and a Russian-like accent. He calls himself an "evil genius" and is surprisingly friendly when he's not working. David Ogden Stiers voiced Jumba in the films and the TV series.

Jumba is incredibly smart. He is amazing at creating destructive and complex experiments and machines. Stitch (Experiment 626) is proof of his genius, being one of the strongest fighters in the galaxy. Jumba also remembers everything about every single experiment he created. He is very strong and tough, able to fight Stitch and survive powerful explosions.

Jumba went to "Evil Genius University" with Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel. They even opened a joke shop together. Jumba later became the Lead Scientist of Galaxy Defense Industries. He created the experiments, and Hämsterviel paid for them. However, Hämsterviel often cheated and stole from Jumba.

In the first movie, Jumba was arrested for creating illegal genetic experiments. He was sent to Earth with Pleakley to catch Experiment 626. Later, he was allowed to stay on Earth and became part of Lilo's family. Jumba loves to tinker with technology. He even added a vacuum-tube elevator to Lilo's house! He also improved Lilo and Stitch's dune buggy to help catch other experiments.

Three years later, Jumba was offered a chance to return to his lab. But Hämsterviel escaped prison and forced Jumba to create a new experiment named Leroy. Jumba secretly programmed a weakness into Leroy: the song "Aloha ʻOe" would shut him down. Jumba chose to return to Earth and Lilo's family instead of keeping his lab.

Agent Wendell "Wendy" Pleakley is an agent for the United Galactic Federation. He is supposed to be an expert on planet Earth, but he actually doesn't know much about it. He unwillingly becomes Dr. Jumba Jookiba's partner to capture Experiment 626. Later, they become best friends and roommates when they are stuck on Earth. Kevin McDonald voices Pleakley.

Pleakley is a thin, greenish-yellow alien with three legs, one large eye, and a single antenna on his head. His antenna works like an ear and nose. He is often described as a "one-eyed noodle" by Jumba and Hämsterviel. Pleakley enjoys dressing up in both men's and women's clothes, often wearing a wig or a muʻumuʻu. His first name, Wendy, is a masculine name on his home planet, meaning "great warrior."

In Lilo & Stitch, Pleakley was ordered to help Jumba find Stitch. They failed and were fired. In the TV series, Pleakley and Jumba stay on Earth and become part of Lilo's ʻohana.

In one episode, Pleakley pretended to be engaged to Nani to make his visiting mother happy. His mother was worried he wasn't married. Pleakley eventually tells his family he is happy being himself, and they accept him.

Later, Pleakley gets a job as Head of Earth Studies at Galactic Alliance Community College. He misses Lilo's family and eventually quits his job to return to Earth. He helps Lilo and Stitch defeat Leroy and his clones.

  • Dr. Hämsterviel's henchman (Stitch! The Movie, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, most of Leroy & Stitch, Stitch! anime series)
Title Captain

Gantu is a very large and strong alien with a tough, military personality. He looks like a bipedal whale with gray skin and stands 20 feet tall. When humans see him in Hawaii, he usually pretends to be Samoan. Lilo often calls him "Big Dummy." Kevin Michael Richardson voices Gantu.

Gantu is very strong, much stronger than humans. He is also a skilled spaceship pilot and a good shot with his plasma pistol. His pistol can fire plasma bolts and nets to catch experiments. He often says "Blitznak" when things go wrong.

Gantu first appears disliking Stitch. He tries to transport Stitch to a desert asteroid, but Stitch escapes. Later, the Grand Councilwoman sends Gantu to Earth to capture Stitch. He captures Stitch and Lilo, but Stitch escapes. Gantu gets into a dogfight with Stitch, Jumba, Pleakley, and Nani. Stitch destroys Gantu's ship, and Gantu is fired for failing his mission and kidnapping Lilo.

In Stitch! The Movie, Dr. Hämsterviel hires Gantu to find Jumba's other experiments. In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Gantu works with the lazy Experiment 625 to catch experiments. He usually loses to Lilo and Stitch. Gantu often gets annoyed with Hämsterviel and sometimes disobeys his orders.

In Leroy & Stitch, Gantu helps Hämsterviel escape prison and force Jumba to create Leroy. Hämsterviel later fires Gantu, so Gantu joins Lilo's side. He helps Lilo and Reuben rescue Stitch and his friends. After Hämsterviel's defeat, Gantu gets his job back as Captain of the Galactic Armada. He asks for Reuben to be his galley officer.

  • Miranda Paige Walls (Lilo & Stitch, Lilo & Stitch: Trouble in Paradise)
  • Liliana Mumy
Occupation Hula student

Mildred Pearl "Mertle" Edmonds is Lilo's main rival. She is voiced by Miranda Paige Walls and later by Liliana Mumy.

Mertle is introduced as Lilo's former friend. She is a popular girl and the leader of a group of three other girls in hālau hula. Mertle calls Lilo "Weirdlo" and doesn't want her to join their activities. Mertle and her friends are scared of Lilo's doll, Scrump, and Stitch. Mertle enjoys insulting and bullying Lilo, who sometimes reacts by hitting or biting her.

In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Mertle is from a wealthy family and is a spoiled brat. She lives with her mother. In one episode, she has Gigi (Experiment 007) as a pet, but doesn't know Gigi is an experiment. Lilo often tries to be friends with Mertle, but Mertle usually rejects her.

Mertle is important in Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, where she competes in a hula contest. When Victoria moves to Kokaua Town, Mertle tries to make friends with her to stop her from being Lilo's friend. However, Victoria genuinely likes Lilo and remains one of Lilo's few human friends.

In Leroy & Stitch, Mertle is captured by Leroy. She is present at the final battle and learns her dog, Gigi, is an alien experiment who can talk. She later becomes part of Lilo's ʻohana.

Mertle's mother is kind to Lilo and often doesn't notice the trouble Lilo and Stitch cause. She believes Lilo is one of Mertle's good friends. Mertle also has an Aunt Stacy, a Hollywood producer who can't remember Mertle's name. Mertle's three friends are Yuki, Elena, and Teresa.

Occupation

Cobra Bubbles works as a social worker in the first film. He visits Nani's house to check on her care for Lilo. He finds Lilo alone and Nani trying to get in through the dog door. Cobra decides Nani isn't doing well enough. When Nani loses her job because of Stitch, he gives her three days to find a new one. Stitch also throws a dictionary at Cobra's head when they first meet. Ving Rhames voices Cobra in the films.

After Lilo almost drowns while surfing, Cobra decides to take Lilo away. When Jumba and Pleakley attack the house to catch Stitch, Lilo calls Cobra. After the house is destroyed, Cobra arrives to take Lilo away, but Lilo runs off and is captured by Gantu.

Cobra is a former CIA agent. He was involved in an event at Roswell in 1973, where he met the Grand Councilwoman. He once saved Earth by convincing aliens that the mosquito was an endangered species. The Grand Councilwoman later tells Cobra to protect Lilo's family. Cobra becomes a close friend of the family, appearing in Lilo's photos and at her birthday parties.

Cobra appears in a few episodes of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. He seems to still work for the government in a secret way. He also adopted Experiment 234, named Shush. Cobra is very strong; he can pull open a door that is nailed shut.

The Grand Councilwoman is the leader of the United Galactic Federation. She is fair and means well, but like many aliens, she knows almost nothing about Earth. She looks like a grey alien with hoof-shaped feet and a big head. Australian actress Zoe Caldwell voiced her.

In Lilo & Stitch, she first appears at Jumba's trial. She asks Experiment 626 to show some good, but he refuses. She sentences Stitch to banishment and Jumba to prison. When Stitch escapes to Earth, she allows Pleakley and Jumba to retrieve him. She often calls Pleakley to check on their progress. Eventually, she fires them and sends Gantu.

At the end of the film, she sees that Stitch has found a family and changed for the better. She learns that Lilo and Nani legally own Stitch. She happily lets Stitch stay with the Pelekais on Earth and puts the family under the protection of the Galactic Alliance. She also reveals she met Cobra Bubbles during the Roswell case.

The Grand Councilwoman briefly appears in Stitch! The Movie and one episode of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. In Leroy & Stitch, she makes Stitch a Captain. She is briefly replaced by Hämsterviel but returns to her position at the end.

Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel is voiced by Jeff Bennett. He is a small, albino alien scientist who wants to take over the galaxy. He is two feet tall and looks like a rodent with white fur, red eyes, and rabbit-like ears. He wears a red cape. Hämsterviel was the former lab partner of Doctor Jumba Jookiba. He now wants to capture the genetic experiments he helped create, with the help of Gantu.

Hämsterviel speaks with an exaggerated French and German accent. He has a very big ego and is rude to everyone. Most people mispronounce his name as "Hamsterwheel." He also doesn't like his real first name, Rupert. He is often mistaken for a gerbil, even though he insists he is hamster-like.

Hämsterviel usually works from his "prison cell," which he has turned into a laboratory. He is also a very smart "evil genius," able to escape prison and build things from scratch.

In Leroy & Stitch, Hämsterviel escapes prison and forces Jumba to create a new experiment, "Leroy". He then makes many clones of Leroy to take over the Galactic Alliance. He fires Gantu for being incompetent. This leads to his downfall, as Gantu then helps Lilo and Reuben. After Lilo, Stitch, and Reuben defeat all the Leroys, Hämsterviel is sent back to prison with all the Leroy clones.

Reuben (Experiment 625) is one of Jumba's experiments and Stitch's cousin. Reuben has all of Stitch's powers and speaks fluent English with a Brooklyn accent. However, he prefers to make sandwiches rather than use his powers. Rob Paulsen voices him.

Despite his powers, Reuben is very lazy. He often makes fun of Gantu but secretly sees him as his best friend. He loves sandwiches and is usually seen making or eating one. Reuben is also very smart, especially about the other experiments. He knows a lot about every experiment Jumba created.

Experiment 625 was designed for mischief and destruction, like Stitch. But he was considered a failure because he was so lazy. His pod was smuggled to Earth by Jumba.

In Stitch! The Movie, Reuben's pod falls out during a fight. Gantu finds it and activates him. Gantu and Hämsterviel are surprised by how lazy he is. Reuben ends up stuck on Earth after Gantu's ship crashes.

In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Reuben is Gantu's sidekick. He gives Gantu information about the experiments but rarely helps in fights. He is often no help or messes up Gantu's plans.

Reuben plays a big role in Leroy & Stitch. Gantu leaves him behind, making Reuben upset. Lilo visits Reuben and names him. Reuben then realizes he can use his powers and helps Lilo save Stitch. He fixes Gantu's ship and they head to Planet Turo. Hämsterviel fires Gantu, who then joins Lilo and Reuben. They team up with Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley to save the captive experiments. During the battle, Reuben throws sandwiches to make the Leroys slip. He also plays the saxophone during the "Aloha ʻOe" song that shuts down the Leroys. As a reward, Reuben becomes the Galley Officer for the Galactic Armada, working with Gantu.

The genetic experiments are alien creatures created by Dr. Jumba Jookiba. Stitch (Experiment 626) is one of them. Jumba created these experiments with money from his old partner, Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel. They were made to cause all sorts of trouble, from small annoyances to destroying planets.

The experiments are a main part of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. Lilo and Stitch have to find these experiments, which start as dry pods that activate in water. They then capture them, give them names, and help them find a good purpose in society. Lilo calls these their "one true places." Stitch calls almost all of them his "cousins," and considers them part of his ʻohana.

There are 626 original experiments, from X-001/Shrink to X-626/Stitch. Their names were shown in the credits of Leroy & Stitch.

  • Hypnotism through a siren song that affects the morality of listeners (primarily experiments made before her)
  • Superhuman strength, durability, and agility
  • Tendril-like antennae
  • Adept at martial arts

Angel (Experiment 624) is a pink female experiment and Stitch's love interest. Stitch is deeply in love with her, and she feels the same way. They call each other "boojiboo," which means "mate" in their language, Tantalog. Angel can hypnotize others by singing a siren song. This song can turn experiments from good to evil, or back to good if she sings it backward. However, it doesn't work on experiments created after her, like Reuben (625) and Stitch. In the anime series Stitch!, she becomes a famous singer worldwide. Tara Strong voices her.

In her first episode, Angel charms Stitch, making him fall in love. Lilo is suspicious and sarcastically names her "Angel." Angel uses Lilo and Stitch to get into their home and find other experiments. She plans to hypnotize them back to evil and give them to Gantu. However, she feels bad for betraying Stitch, who was kind to her. She sings her song backward to turn the experiments good again, saving Stitch. Gantu captures Angel as punishment.

In the episode "Snafu," 625 tricks Angel into singing her song backward. Lilo and Stitch plan to rescue her. Stitch tells Angel he loves her, and she breaks out of her capsule. They free the other experiments and escape. Stitch and Angel then go on a date.

Angel appears briefly in Leroy & Stitch. She helps fight against Hämsterviel's Leroy army. She uses martial arts moves to protect Stitch and is part of the final group shot of Lilo's ʻohana.

In the Stitch! anime series, Angel becomes a successful pop singer. She sometimes acts like a spoiled diva. Even though she loves Stitch, she is sometimes attracted to other characters, but always returns to loving Stitch.

Angel is a very popular character. She appears in Disney Parks and on merchandise around the world.

Leroy is designed to have all of Stitch's powers. He can also disguise himself as Stitch by changing his fur color to blue and instantly regrowing his fur. Chris Sanders voices him.

After naming him "Leroy," Dr. Hämsterviel uses a cloning machine to create an army of Leroys. He sends the original Leroy to Earth to capture the other 624 experiments. However, Jumba secretly programmed a weakness into Leroy: if he (or his clones) hears the song "Aloha ʻOe", his nervous system will shut down.

During the final battle, when the Leroys are winning, Stitch, Lilo, and Reuben sing "Aloha ʻOe." This causes Leroy and all his clones to glitch and shut down. After their defeat, Leroy and his clones are sent to jail with Dr. Hämsterviel. They are seen happily dancing the "Jailhouse Rock" in their cells.
