Johanne Morissette Daug Amon (born June 2, 1996), known as Morissette, is a talented Filipino singer and songwriter. Many people call her "Asia's Phoenix" because of her amazing voice.

When she was 14, Morissette was a runner-up in a TV show called Star Factor. She also started acting in a musical, Camp Rock: The Musical, in 2012. She became even more famous after being a semi-finalist in the first season of The Voice of the Philippines. Morissette is known for her wide vocal range and for being able to sing in the whistle register, which is a very high vocal sound.

In 2015, Morissette released her first album, Morissette. It sold so well that it was certified Platinum! The next year, she had her first big solo concert in Manila. In 2017, she worked with American singer Michael Bolton on a show called Bolt of Talent. She also proudly represented the Philippines at the Asia Song Festival in South Korea in both 2017 and 2018.

Morissette had her first concert tour, Morissette Is Made, in 2018. In 2019, Disney chose her and Darren Espanto to sing "A Whole New World" for the Philippine release of the live-action movie Aladdin. In 2020, she worked with Michael Bolton again as a mentor on Asian Dream. In 2021, Morissette sang the Philippine national anthem at an important event for former President Rodrigo Duterte. That same year, she started writing and producing her own music, releasing an EP called Signature.

Morissette has won many awards for her music and performances. These include two Awit Awards, an Aliw Award, six PMPC Star Awards for Music, and 38 Wish 107.5 Music Awards. She has won the most awards at the Wish 107.5 Music Awards!

Her Journey to Stardom

Early Life and Discovering Her Voice

Johanne Morissette Daug Amon was born on June 2, 1996, in Cebu, Philippines. Her mom is Analie Daug, and her dad, Amay Amon, is a rock musician. Morissette is the oldest of two children. She went to school at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy in Minglanilla, Cebu.

Her dad chose her first name, "Johanne" (pronounced "Yohan"), after the famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Her stage name, "Morissette", comes from her dad's favorite singer, Alanis Morissette. When Morissette was just 3 years old, her family found her singing the song "You Are My Song" by Regine Velasquez using a karaoke machine. That's how they knew she had a special talent!

Singing Contests and Inspiration

Morissette started entering singing contests in Cebu when she was young. In her first contest, she sang "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera. She joined many competitions, like Young Star Singing Idol. At age 9, she was a finalist in Little Big Star Cebu. At 11, she won a contest called DYKC Awit sa Kabataan.

She also performed as a front act for famous singers like Sarah Geronimo and Kim Chiu during their mall tours in Cebu. Morissette has said that she learned to sing in the whistle register from singers like Nina Girado and Mariah Carey. She also looked up to Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo as she grew up.

Starting Her TV Career

At 14, Morissette appeared on TV5's Talentadong Pinoy. In 2011, she recorded 14 songs, but they weren't released until much later as Morissette at 14, Vol 1 and Vol 2. After Talentadong Pinoy, she joined another TV5 show, Star Factor, and made it to the finals in Manila. She finished as the first runner-up. She then appeared in TV5 shows like Pidol's Wonderland and Kapitan Awesome.

In 2012, Morissette played the main role of Mitchie Torres in Disney's Camp Rock: The Musical. This musical ran for about a month in Makati City. Rehearsing and performing so much was tough on her voice, and she was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules.

Joining The Voice of the Philippines

Morissette wanted to focus on her singing career. So, she decided to join ABS-CBN's new singing competition, The Voice of the Philippines. In June 2013, during the blind auditions, Morissette sang "Love On Top". Sarah Geronimo chose her to be part of her team.

Morissette did well in the show, moving on to the live performances. She sang songs like "Jar of Hearts" and "What About Love". She made it to the semifinals, where she sang "The Voice Within" and "Who You Are". She was eliminated in the semifinals after a close competition.

Her Performances on The Voice

Life After The Voice

In 2014, Morissette started appearing regularly on ABS-CBN's ASAP, a popular Sunday show. She sang theme songs for TV dramas like Moon of Desire. She also got a special segment on ASAP called "HD" (Homegrown Divas) with other singers.

Morissette also performed on It's Showtime, where she could show off her singing and dancing skills. In May 2014, she had her first solo concert, This Is Me, to celebrate her 18th birthday. She sang many popular songs, including some by her namesake, Alanis Morissette. At this concert, she announced she had joined Star Records.

A cool moment happened in July 2014 when Morissette performed with Jessie J at her concert! Morissette had sung one of Jessie J's songs on The Voice. When they met, Jessie J asked Morissette to sing for her, and then invited her to join her on stage.

In September 2014, Morissette performed in the finals of Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs, a big songwriting competition. She sang "Akin Ka Na Lang", which was one of the top 15 songs. In November 2014, she sang Disney songs in a concert called Disney in Concert: A Tale as Old as Time.

In 2017, she co-hosted Bolt of Talent with Michael Bolton. She also won eight awards at the 2nd Wish 107.5 Music Awards, more than any other artist! She won all six categories she was nominated for. Her cover of Mariah Carey's "Against All Odds" and Little Mix's "Secret Love Song" earned her special awards for reaching millions of views on YouTube. Her "Secret Love Song" performance was the first to hit 25 million views on Wish 107.5's YouTube channel.

Morissette became known as "Asia's Phoenix" after her amazing performance at the 14th Asia Song Festival in Busan, South Korea, in September 2017. She represented the Philippines there and returned to the festival in 2018. She was also the first Filipino artist to have her own V Live channel, a popular South Korean video streaming service.

In February 2018, Regine Velasquez joined Morissette for a duet at Morissette's "Made" concert. Morissette's performance of "Secret Love Song" reached over 100 million views on YouTube, making her the first female OPM (Original Pilipino Music) singer to achieve this! In late 2018, she was a mentor and judge on the Filipino reality show Hello K-Idol.

In 2019, Morissette and Darren Espanto sang "A Whole New World" for Disney's live-action Aladdin movie in the Philippines. She also judged Himig Handog 2019 and recorded "This Is Christmas" with Ben Adams.
