Life and Career

Early Life and Start

Johanne Morissette Daug Amon was born on June 2, 1996, in Cebu, Philippines. Her mother is Analie Daug, and her father is rock musician Amay Amon. Morissette is the oldest child and has a younger brother named Jeremy Mattheu.

Her father chose her first name, "Johanne" (pronounced "Yohan"), from the famous German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Her stage name, "Morissette," came from her father's favorite singer, Alanis Morissette. When she was only 3 years old, her family discovered she could sing by hearing her use a karaoke machine.

Morissette started entering singing contests in Cebu. She sang Christina Aguilera's "Reflection" in her first radio station contest. At age 9, she was a finalist in Little Big Star Cebu. She also won a contest at age 11. Around that time, she had a small growth removed from her neck. She also opened for famous singers like Sarah Geronimo and Kim Chiu at mall shows in Cebu. Morissette learned to sing in the whistle register from singers like Nina Girado and Mariah Carey. She also looked up to Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo as she grew up.

At 14, Morissette joined Talentadong Pinoy on TV5. In 2011, she recorded 14 songs that were later released in 2020 and 2021 as Morissette at 14, Vol 1 and Vol 2. After Talentadong Pinoy, she joined Star Factor and finished as the first runner-up. She then appeared in several TV5 shows. In 2012, Morissette played the main role of Mitchie Torres in the stage play Camp Rock. Rehearsing for the musical caused her to develop vocal cord nodules.

2013: The Voice of the Philippines

Morissette wanted to focus on her singing career. She decided to join The Voice of the Philippines on ABS-CBN. In June 2013, she sang "Love On Top" during the blind auditions, and Sarah Geronimo chose her for her team. Morissette continued to do well in the show, moving on to the live performances.

She sang "Jar of Hearts" and received the most votes on her team, moving her forward. In the next round, she sang "What About Love" and advanced to the semifinals. In September 2013, Morissette sang "Who You Are" but was eliminated from the competition.

Performances on The Voice

2014: Joining ABS-CBN
