List of volcanoes in the United States facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

This article lists the volcanoes found in the United States and its territories. The United States has many volcanoes because parts of it are located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. This is a large area around the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.

Some of these volcanoes are active, which means they have erupted recently or might erupt soon. Others are dormant (sleeping) or extinct (will not erupt again). Scientists at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) watch these volcanoes closely to keep people safe.

Volcanoes in Alaska

Alaska has the most volcanoes in the United States. Many of them are located in the Aleutian Islands, a long chain of islands stretching across the ocean.
