List of hills in the Lake District facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Lake District is a super cool place in England, famous for its amazing mountains and lakes. This article is a list of the many hills you can find there! To make sure the list isn't too long, we've only included hills that rise at least 30 meters (about 98 feet) from the land around them. This includes many famous hills, like the ones called 'Wainwrights', and lots of others too.

The Lake District's edges are drawn by how the rivers flow, especially the River Eden and River Lune. So, this list covers all the hills to the west of these rivers, including an area called the 'Westmorland Plateau'.

The hills are grouped together based on their 'parent Marilyn'. A Marilyn is a hill that stands out a lot from the land around it. Imagine dividing the area into territories based on where water would flow from the lowest points between these big hills. A hill's parent Marilyn is the big hill in whose territory it sits. In the tables below, the parent Marilyns are shown in bold.

In the tables, 'H' means the hill's total height above sea level, and 'RH' means its relative height, which is how much it rises from the land right around its base.
