Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is a famous wax museum located on the Las Vegas Strip. You can find it inside The Venetian Las Vegas resort in Paradise, Nevada. This museum first opened its doors in 1999. It was the very first Madame Tussauds museum to open in the United States.

Inside, you'll discover over 100 wax figures. These figures look just like famous celebrities, movie and TV characters, athletes, musicians, and even Marvel superheroes! The museum also has a cool 4D movie theater. After Las Vegas, other Madame Tussauds museums opened in the U.S. These include New York City (2000), Washington D.C. (2007), and Hollywood, California (2009).

How Wax Figures Are Made

Making a wax figure is a long process. It can take anywhere from four to six months to complete one figure.

Planning the Figures

First, the museum decides which famous people to include. They do this by asking visitors and fans. Once a celebrity is chosen, researchers gather lots of information about them. They look into their hairstyles, common facial expressions, and what kind of clothes they like to wear.

Creating the Likeness

If possible, the celebrities visit the Madame Tussauds artists. The artists take more than 150 measurements of their body. They also take over 200 photos from different angles. To make the skin look real, they use special oil-based paints.

It's interesting to know that the figures are not made only of wax. They also use clay to sculpt the shape. Steel is used for the inner structure to make them strong.

Celebrity Involvement

Sometimes, celebrities help create their own wax figures. For example, Gwen Stefani worked with the Madame Tussauds Las Vegas team. She helped them get her figure's style just right. Fergie, a singer from the Black Eyed Peas, even gave one of her own dresses to the museum for her figure!
