The EE Rising Star Award is a special prize given out each year at the British Academy Film Awards, also known as the BAFTAs. This award celebrates talented new actors and actresses who are just starting to make a big impact in movies or TV shows. It's unique because, even though experts choose the nominees, the winner is picked by people like you – through public votes!
The award has been sponsored by different companies. It was called the Orange Rising Star Award until 2012, and since 2013, it has been known as the EE Rising Star Award.

About the Award
The EE Rising Star Award looks for fresh talent in the acting world. Five actors or actresses are chosen as nominees each year. It doesn't matter where they are from, their gender, or if they are known for their work in television or movies.
A group of experts from BAFTA chooses the five nominees. However, the final winner is decided by people voting online, by text message, or by phone. This makes the award very special because the public gets to choose their favorite rising star!
History of the Award
This award was created in 2004 to remember Mary Selway. She was a very important person in the film world who helped many new actors and actresses get their first big roles. She was known as a casting director, which means she found the right actors for movie parts.
The very first winner of the Rising Star Award was James McAvoy in 2006. Since then, only a few non-British actors have won, including Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, and Kristen Stewart. The most recent winner, in 2024, is David Jonsson.
Winners and Nominees
The lists below show all the actors and actresses who have been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award. The names in bold with a gold background are the winners for that year. The year shown is when the movies or TV shows being considered were released, not the year the award ceremony took place. The ceremony always happens the year after the films are released.
