EGOT facts for kids
The EGOT is a very special achievement for people who work in entertainment. It's an acronym, which means each letter stands for a different major award in the United States:
- E for the Emmy Awards, which celebrate excellent work in television.
- G for the Grammy Awards, given for amazing achievements in music and audio recording.
- O for the Oscar, which honors outstanding achievements in film.
- T for the Tony Awards, recognizing top-notch work in theater.
Winning all four of these awards is often called the "grand slam" of American show business. It's a huge honor! So far, 28 talented individuals have achieved EGOT status. This includes those who received special or honorary awards. Only one person, Robert Lopez, has won all four awards twice!

What is an EGOT?
The idea of the EGOT started in 1984. Actor Philip Michael Thomas, who starred in Miami Vice, said he wanted to win all four awards within five years. The term became much more widely known after a 2009 episode of the TV show 30 Rock. That show featured the EGOT as a fun, recurring storyline.
There are different kinds of Emmy Awards. Some people, including Philip Michael Thomas, believe only the Primetime Emmy Award should count towards an EGOT. They see other Emmy types as less important than the Primetime honor.

Other Special Achievements
There are also other fun variations of the EGOT.
PEGOT: Adding More Honors
The PEGOT has two different meanings. Some people say the "P" stands for the Peabody Awards, which honor excellence in media. Others say it stands for the Pulitzer Prize, a prestigious award for achievements in journalism, literature, and music composition.
EGOT winners who also won at least one Peabody Award:
EGOT winners who also won at least one Pulitzer Prize:
REGOT: A Unique Combination
Another fun variation is the REGOT, which includes winning a Razzie Award. Razzies are given for the worst achievements in film! Alan Menken has a REGOT because he won a Razzie for Worst Original Song. Liza Minnelli also has a REGOT if you count her non-competitive Grammy.
Lady Gaga even joked about her own EGORT status. She reordered the letters to include her Razzie win for Worst Screen Combo from Joker: Folie à Deux.
Some people also define REGOT as including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If we use this definition, Elton John is the only person with such a REGOT.
EGOT Around the World
The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards are American awards. Most EGOT winners are from the United States. However, five EGOT winners are British: John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Tim Rice.
Other countries have their own awards for television, music, film, and theater. People in those countries have even created their own EGOT-like acronyms!
Canada's "Two-Can-Ju-Do"
In Canada, some people have suggested a "Two-Can-Ju-Do." This would include the Canadian Screen Awards (or their older versions) for film and TV, the Juno Awards for music, and the Dora Mavor Moore Awards for theater. So far, no one has won all four of these Canadian awards.
Australia's "LAHA"
In Australia, a similar idea is the "LAHA." This stands for the Logie Awards for television, the ARIA Music Awards for music, the Helpmann Awards for theater, and the AACTA Awards for film. No one has won all four of these Australian awards yet.
