Charles III is the King of 15 independent countries. These countries are known as the Commonwealth realms. He mostly lives in the United Kingdom, which is the oldest and largest of these countries. In the other countries, special people represent the King. These representatives are called viceregal representatives. The King is also represented in parts of Canada, Australia, British overseas territories, and other places.

Governors-General
In many Commonwealth realms, the King is represented by a Governor-General. This person acts on behalf of the King in that country. They have important duties, like opening Parliament and approving laws.
Counsellors of State
In the United Kingdom, the King chooses special people called counsellors of state. They can act for the King if he is not in the country. They also step in if he cannot perform his royal duties for other reasons.
Crown Dependencies
The Crown dependencies are special territories. They belong to the King of the United Kingdom, not the UK government. The British monarch is their head of state. A lieutenant governor represents the King in these places.

In the Realm of New Zealand, the Cook Islands have a king's representative. This person represents the King of New Zealand. Niue also has a representative. However, for Niue, the Governor-General of New Zealand represents the King.
