The Korean Educational Broadcasting System (Hangul: 한국교육방송공사; RR: Hanguggyoyugbangsong-gongsa), or EBS, is a special TV and radio network in South Korea. Its main goal is to help people learn. EBS is the only big TV and radio network in South Korea that focuses only on education. It works with the government's science and education groups. EBS started in the 1980s as part of another network, KBS. In 1990, it became its own independent company.

How EBS Gets Money

Even though EBS is a public network, it gets most of its money from different places. A big part of its budget comes from selling textbooks and other learning materials. It also earns money from advertisements on its TV, radio, and internet channels. A smaller part of its money comes from TV license fees and government help.

EBS Channels

EBS has several channels that offer different kinds of programs for learning and fun.

Main TV Channels

  • EBS1 — This is EBS's main TV channel. It shows great documentaries, and programs for young children and teenagers. You can find it on Channel 10.1.
  • EBS2 — This is EBS's second TV channel. It also offers educational content. You can find it on Channel 10.2.

Radio and Subscription Channels

  • EBS FM — This is EBS's radio channel. It mostly helps people learn new languages. Important listening tests for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) are also broadcast here every year.
  • EBS Plus 1 (subscription television) — This channel is for high school students. It has programs that help them study for important tests like the CSAT. It makes school learning even better.
  • EBS Plus 2 (subscription television) — This channel is for "lifelong" learning. It has many different shows for both younger and older viewers who want to keep learning new things.
  • EBS English (subscription television) — This channel is all about learning English. It has shows for kids from kindergarten all the way up to high school.
  • EBS Kids (subscription television) — This is EBS's channel just for children. It used to show the same programs as EBS Plus 1.

EBS also has a special channel called EBS America in the United States. This channel shares Korean culture, teaches the Korean language, and shows children's programs.
