National Chengchi University (NCCU) is a public university in Taipei, Taiwan. It's known for its focus on subjects like arts, social sciences, economics, and international affairs.
The university's name, Chengchi, means "governance" or "politics". This is because it was first started in 1927 to train people for important jobs in the government. NCCU is the only public university in Taiwan that offers special courses in journalism, advertising, and diplomacy. It also teaches several languages not found in other schools there.
NCCU works closely with other top schools and research centers in Taiwan. It is also part of the University System of Taiwan.

A Look at NCCU's History
National Chengchi University began in 1927 in Nanjing, which was the capital city of China at the time. It was first called the Central School of Party Affairs. Its main goal was to train people for the Nationalist Party of China.
In 1929, its name changed to Central School of Governance. Later, in 1946, it joined with another school called the Central School of Cadre. The combined school was then named the National Central University of Governance.
However, in 1949, the Nationalist government moved to Taiwan. Because of this, the university's activities in mainland China stopped.
NCCU was reopened in 1954 in Taipei, Taiwan. This was done to help train people for government jobs and to meet the need for more higher education. At first, only graduate students were accepted. But by 1955, undergraduate students could also join.
NCCU has always been a leading school for training public servants. Today, it is one of the top universities in Taiwan. It is also part of a special project by the Ministry of Education to help universities become even better.
In 2014, the Embassy of Japan in Taiwan listed NCCU as one of the seven most well-known universities in Taiwan. In 2019, NCCU opened its first office outside Taiwan, in Bangkok, Thailand.
