Rick Stein's Cornwall is a fun TV show about food and travel in the UK. It first aired on BBC Two in January 2021. In each 30-minute episode, famous chef Rick Stein explores his home county of Cornwall.

Rick meets local food suppliers and learns about the history, music, art, and culture of Cornwall. He also tries many delicious local dishes. A second series of the show was broadcast in January 2022.

Making the Show

The idea for Rick Stein's Cornwall was approved by the BBC on August 17, 2020. It was made by Rick Stein Productions and Shine TV for BBC Two. Filming for the first series took place in September and October 2020.

Rick goes to Coombeshead Farm in Launceston to meet chef Tom Adams. Tom raises Mangalica pigs and grows organic vegetables for his restaurant. Rick cooks pork with a Blackthorn sloe berry sauce. He visits Penzance and buys oysters in Rock. Back in Padstow, Rick and his son Jack cook a seafood bake on the beach.

In Porthilly, Rick visits Tim Marshall's oyster farm. In Launceston, he sees the castle and St. Mary Magdalene Church. After meeting musicians Graham Fitkin and Ruth Wall at Land's End, Rick cooks Cornish mussels with cider.

Rick goes "crabbing" and then cooks a crab omelette. Barry Humphries tells Rick about his close call in 1961 when he fell off a cliff near Zennor. They visit the grave of Sir John Betjeman at St Enodoc Church in Trebetherick. Rick also joins the Perranporth Cold Water Swimmers for a chilly dip.

Rick visits the Camel Valley Vineyard to taste their award-winning wine. He goes mackerel fishing off the Padstow coast. Rick then cooks a Goan recheado mackerel curry, inspired by his trip to Goa.

Rick takes a boat ride along the Fowey Estuary to learn its history. In Fowey, he enjoys a local favorite: crab Scotch egg. After visiting St Catherine's Castle, Rick travels to Colwith Farm in Lanlivery. The owners make vodka from potatoes they grow. Later, he makes vodka-drizzle pancakes with a blackberry compot and Cornish clotted cream. Near Truro, Rick tries local meat and vegetables at Nancarrow Farm's Feast Night.

Rick meets Nathan Outlaw, a chef he used to mentor, at his restaurant in Port Issac. They go lobster fishing off the coast, and Rick later makes a lobster risotto. Rick visits another former chef, Ross Geach, who owns Padstow Kitchen Garden. Rick uses vegetables from Ross's garden to make a Briam, a Greek vegetable casserole, at Tresillian House.

After taking a ferry across the Tamar River, Rick travels to Liskeard's Golitha Falls. There, he meets Dawn French, who moved to Cornwall in 2006. Later, Rick visits Cornwall's first Buckthorn berry orchard. These berries are known as a superfood. Afterwards, Rick cooks duck with a sea buckthorn sauce.

Rick visits the St Austell china clay pit. Later, he cooks a fennel and sea bass dish. Rick also creates a dessert of pears poached in red wine and blackberries. In the seaside town of Newlyn, Rick visits his niece Lucy, an artist who loves painting the local scenery. They visit Boscawen-Un, a Bronze Age stone circle from 2500-1500 BC.

In St. Ives, Rick sees why artists like Barbara Hepworth and Terry Frost loved the area. After a fishing trip for red mullet, Rick cooks red mullet with sliced roast potatoes and a black olive tapenade. At Land's End, Rick learns about efforts to protect red-billed choughs, which are important because they are on the Cornish coat of arms.

In the Roseland peninsula, Rick visits St Just's Church. He travels to St Mawes to meet hoteliers Olga and Alex Polizzi. Rick enjoys a meal of duck breast with rosti and roasted beetroot with red wine due. Rick visits Philip Warren Butchers in Launceston, known for dry-aged meat. He then makes ribeye steak with bearnaise sauce. In Mousehole, Rick meets potter and author Jack Doherty, who finds inspiration in Cornwall.

Rick visits Tintagel Castle, believed to be the birthplace of King Arthur. He travels inland to Camborne, known for its old tin and copper mining industry. Afterwards, he makes saffron buns. Rick goes to the Roseland Peninsula to meet Brian and Margaret Eyers, owners of The Cornish Saffron Company, to see how saffron is grown and processed.

After a swim at Lamorna Cove, Rick travels to Botallack to see its famous Crowns engine houses. After eating a Cornish pasty in St Just, Rick visits Chûn Quoit. Rick meets author Patrick Gale. Later, Rick makes a Cornish bouillabaisse with gurnard, langoustines, and mussels.

Rick travels to Truro, Cornwall's only city, and visits Truro Cathedral. Just outside Truro, at Nancarrow Farm, Rick cooks butterflied lamb with rosemary and thyme. He visits an organic farm where the family is passionate about offal. At the rugged Morwenstow coast, Rick shares the story of clergyman Robert Hawker, who buried shipwrecked sailors. Rick visits Hawker's Hut, the National Trust's smallest property.

Rick travels to St Ives to learn about Alfred Wallis, a lesser-known British artist. After visiting a farm on the Cornwall-Devon border, he makes a French lamb stew called a Navarin. Rick visits St Neot's Church to see its medieval stained glass windows and joins the village's annual Oak Apple Day parade.

Rick walks with Springwatch presenter and biologist Gillian Burke in Tremayne Woods. This is an Atlantic temperate rainforest along the Helford River. Rick then visits a couple who make Cornish charcuterie. He later makes high tea with ham and vegetables.

Rick tells the old Cornish folk tale of the Mermaid of Zennor. He then goes to the coast to see how edible seaweed is collected. Rick goes to Bodmin Moor to meet a blacksmith who makes knives from old vehicles.

After meeting Cornish artist Sue Read, Rick visits the fishing port of Mousehole. He follows in the footsteps of poet Dylan Thomas and then makes the Cornish dish of Stargazy pie. Rick also explores novelist Thomas Hardy's life after he moved to North Cornwall.

After catching some crab off the coast of Newquay, Rick makes a Cornish King Crab Salad. He then goes inland to Bodmin Moor to see Robin Hanbury-Tenison and his son's rewilding project. They have brought wild beavers back to the local countryside.

Rick travels to the Isles of Scilly to meet a man who makes lobster pots by hand, the traditional way. Rick tells the story of the Scilly naval disaster of 1707, when four Royal Navy warships were lost in a storm. At Tresco Abbey Gardens, Rick meets a beekeeper trying to bring back a native Scillonian honeybee. This bee can handle the islands' harsh weather and makes more honey. This inspires Rick to make a steamed sponge pudding with honey butterscotch sauce.

Rick visits the Davidstow cheese factory to see how they make cheese. He talks about cheese with Mark Pitts-Tucker, the Head Cheese Grader. Rick is at the port of Falmouth, which is still very busy today. He visits the home of Nobel Prize-winning British author William Golding, who wrote Lord of the Flies. In Roche, Rick and Cornish actor Ed Rowe discuss the issue of second homes in Cornish communities.

Rick travels to Carrick Roads, the estuary of the River Fal. He joins a team diving for razor clams. Later, he cooks grilled razor clams with breadcrumbs, tomato, garlic, chilli, and parsley, served with a salad of seaweed and lettuce. At Newlyn Pier, Rick visits a tidal observatory that helped determine the average sea level. After visiting Penlee Museum to see items made by fishermen a century ago, Rick meets metal worker Michael Johnson, who is bringing copperwork back to Newlyn.

At Land's End, Rick meets painter Kurt Jackson, who is inspired by Turner's Cornish paintings. In Newlyn, Rick sees how the fish market has changed with online auctions. Back at Tresillian House, he cooks Grillade of monkfish with roasted red pepper sauce and olive oil mash. At Caerhays Castle, Rick sees many different types of Magnolias, some from as far away as China.

Rick travels to Pentillie Castle to see former owner Sir James Tillie's mausoleum. After a swim in the River Tamar, he meets chef Emily Scott. She recreates the Turbot dish she made for President Joe Biden at the 2021 G7 summit. Rick visits his asparagus supplier to see how the vegetable is grown. Later he makes a Vegetable melange with beurre blanc. At Gwithian Beach, he meets the founder of The Wave Project, a charity that uses surf therapy to help young people with mental health problems.

In Looe, Rick learns about raids by Barbary pirates who enslaved thousands from Britain's coastal towns. After joining a fishing boat off St Mawes, Rick makes a warm sole salad with tomato, avocado, and basil. In Newlyn, he meets two chefs whose popular bistro shows off the best local fish and seafood. Rick travels to Porthpean to meet composer and musician Harriet Petherick Bushman.
2–15 30 "Series 2 Episode 15" 21 January 2022 (2022-01-21)
In the final episode, Rick travels to Whitsand Bay to meet Lisa Woollett, a photographer and beachcomber. She has found amazing items on Cornwall's beaches. In Bude, he sees old photographs that show the local area. Later, Rick visits a mine to learn about the origins of the Cornish pasty. Back at Tresillian House, Rick makes traditional Cornish pasties.
