The 2009–10 season was a very exciting time for FC Barcelona. After winning three big trophies the year before (a "treble"), they aimed to win even more! They competed in six major tournaments: the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Copa del Rey, La Liga, and the Champions League. Before the season, Barcelona made a big player change. They traded their star goal scorer, Samuel Eto'o, to Inter Milan and brought in Zlatan Ibrahimović. This was a big move for the team. On May 16, Barcelona won their 20th La Liga title. They set a new record with 99 points! They beat Valladolid 4–0, ending the season with four major trophies.

Overview
During the summer of 2009, Barcelona added new players to their team. Besides Zlatan Ibrahimović, they signed defender Maxwell from Inter Milan. They also brought in forward Keirrison from Brazil, who was then loaned to other clubs. Defender Dmytro Chyhrynskyi from Ukraine also joined. Barcelona is famous for using players from its own youth academy, called cantera. Coach Pep Guardiola brought up four young talents to the main team: Jonathan dos Santos, Jeffrén, Andreu Fontàs, and Marc Muniesa. Another player, Henrique, who was on loan, returned briefly before being loaned out again to Racing de Santander.
Club Leadership Changes
During the season, there were some changes and discussions about the club's leadership. A newspaper reported that information was gathered about some people who might become the next club president. The club's director, Joan Oliver, explained that this was done to protect the club. President Joan Laporta also said that the club acted within the rules and that the goal was to protect everyone involved and the club itself. He emphasized that the club was strong and united. Coach Pep Guardiola made sure the team stayed focused on their games, not on these discussions. Later, one of the vice-presidents, Joan Franquesa, left his role. President Laporta then made some changes to the club's board of directors, bringing in Albert Perrín as a new vice-president. These changes aimed to help the club run even better.
Messi's Amazing Awards
On December 1, 2009, Lionel Messi won the prestigious 2009 Ballon d'Or award. This made him the ninth player while playing at Barcelona and the first from Argentina and the first from Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, to win it. Messi thanked his family and his teammates, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, for their support. Xavi and Iniesta also finished high in the voting, showing how strong the Barcelona team was. Later, on December 21, Messi was also named the 2009 FIFA World Player of the Year. He won by a huge number of votes, beating Cristiano Ronaldo. This made 2009 a truly special year for Barcelona. On January 16, Messi reached another milestone: he became the youngest player to score 100 official goals for Barcelona. He scored two goals in a match against Sevilla to achieve this. Messi said he just wanted to keep working hard and achieve more. By the end of the season, Messi was the top scorer in La Liga with 34 goals, winning the Pichichi Trophy. He also won the European Golden Shoe for being the top league scorer in Europe. Barcelona's goalkeeper, Víctor Valdés, also won the Zamora Trophy for being the best goalkeeper in La Liga that season.
Team and Coach Recognition
On January 13, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) gave out awards too. Xavi was named the World's Best Playmaker for 2009. His teammates, Lionel Messi and Andrés Iniesta, also ranked high. Coach Pep Guardiola was recognized as the World Club Coach for 2009. This showed how well the entire Barcelona team and coaching staff were performing.
Winning the Sextuple!
Barcelona played a friendly match in Kuwait on December 21 against Kazma Sporting Club. This game happened after the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup, which was held in the United Arab Emirates. The friendly match ended in a 1–1 draw. On December 16, a special moment happened: Pedro became the first player ever to score in six different club competitions in one season! He scored in La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Just three days later, on December 19, Barcelona won the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup! They beat Estudiantes from Argentina 2–1 in the final. This victory was historic because it meant Barcelona had won all six major titles in 2009. This incredible achievement is known as The Sextuple!
