Coastal Islands
England has many islands located off its coast or in bays and harbours. These are often called "offshore" or "inshore" islands. You can sort the table below by "Island Group/Location" to see islands from the same area together.
Inland Islands
England also has many islands within its freshwater lakes and rivers. You'll find most of these in the Lake District. Other places with many inland islands include the Norfolk Broads, some large reservoirs, and major rivers.

Places Named "Island" or "Isle" That Are Not Islands Today
Some places in England have "island" or "isle" in their name, but they are not actually islands anymore. This might be because they were once surrounded by marshland that has since dried up. Others are actually peninsulas (land surrounded by water on three sides) or just coastal towns.
