List of prime ministers of Elizabeth II facts for kids

When Elizabeth II became Queen on February 6, 1952, she was the head of state for 32 independent countries. By the time she passed away, this number was 15. These countries are known as Commonwealth realms. In each of these realms, the Queen's government was led by a prime minister. The Queen, or her special representative called a Governor-General, had the power to choose or remove prime ministers.
During her long reign, Queen Elizabeth II saw 179 different people serve as prime ministers in her realms. The first new prime minister she appointed was Dudley Senanayake in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The very last was Liz Truss in the United Kingdom, whom she appointed just two days before her death. Some of these leaders served as prime minister more than once.
This article focuses only on countries that were Commonwealth realms during Queen Elizabeth II's time. It does not include countries that were never realms or leaders in colonies or smaller regions.
