Church of England

The Church of England is a big part of Christian life in Cheshire. Most of its churches here belong to the diocese of Chester. A few are part of the diocese of Liverpool.

Since the mid-1800s, the Chester diocese has been split into two main areas called archdeaconries: the Chester Archdeaconry and the Macclesfield Archdeaconry. Each archdeaconry is then divided into smaller sections called deaneries. All the Cheshire churches in the Liverpool diocese are in the Warrington Archdeaconry.
