Have you ever wondered where the rice in your bowl comes from? Rice is a super important food for billions of people around the world! This article shows which countries grow the most rice. In 2022, the whole world grew over 776 million metric tonnes of rice. A "metric tonne" is a unit of weight, equal to 1,000 kilograms, or about 2,200 pounds. That's a huge amount of rice!
Back in 1961, the world only produced about 216 million metric tonnes. This shows how much rice production has grown over the years to feed more people.

How Rice Production Has Changed Over Time
It's interesting to see how much rice the world has produced over the years. The amount of rice grown has generally increased a lot since the 1960s!
World Production Trends
The total amount of rice grown globally has steadily gone up. For example, in 1961, the world produced about 215 million tonnes. By 2022, this number had jumped to over 776 million tonnes! This big increase helps feed the growing world population.
Major Producers Over the Years
Let's look at how the top rice-producing countries have changed their output over several decades. This table shows the production in millions of metric tonnes for some of the biggest rice growers.
