Wyoming is a state located in the western part of the United States. It's known for its wide-open spaces and beautiful nature. Even though Wyoming is the 9th largest state by land area, covering about 97,093 square miles (251,470 square kilometers), it's the least populated state in the country. In 2020, only about 576,851 people lived there.

Wyoming has 23 counties and 99 cities and towns. Most of Wyoming's land is open space, but about 68% of its people live in these cities and towns, even though these areas only make up a tiny part (less than 1%) of the state's total land.

The biggest city in Wyoming by population is its capital, Cheyenne, with 65,132 residents. The city that covers the most land is Casper, spanning about 26.9 square miles (69.7 square kilometers). On the other hand, the smallest place in Wyoming, both in size and population, is Lost Springs, which has only 6 residents and is about 0.09 square miles (0.23 square kilometers) big.

In Wyoming, places with fewer than 4,000 people are called "towns." If a place has 4,000 or more residents, it's considered a "first-class city."
