The National Women's Hall of Fame (NWHF) is a special place in America that celebrates and honors amazing women. It was started in 1969 in Seneca Falls, New York. The first women were honored in 1973. By 2024, the Hall had honored 312 women.

People from the public can suggest women to be honored. A group of judges then chooses the honorees. They look for women who have made big changes in society, the economy, or culture. They also consider if the woman's work had a major impact across the country or the world, and if her achievements will be remembered for a long time. New women are added to the Hall of Fame every two years, in the fall. The names of these women are usually announced in the spring, often in March, which is Women's History Month.

The NWHF is a private organization that does not aim to make a profit. It gets its money from donations, ticket sales, and other sources. Jennifer Gabriel became the executive director in July 2021.

Where to Find the National Women's Hall of Fame

The National Women's Hall of Fame was first located at Eisenhower College until about 1979. After that, the organization moved into a historic bank building in the Seneca Falls Historic District. This old bank was updated to hold the NWHF's exhibits, historical items, and offices.

In August 2020, the National Women's Hall of Fame moved to its third and current home: the historic Seneca Knitting Mill. This building is right across the canal from the Women's Rights National Historical Park. This park includes the Wesleyan Chapel, where the important 1848 women's rights convention took place. That event was a big start for the women's rights movement in America. It took several years to renovate the Seneca Knitting Mill and move the Hall of Fame there.

In 2014, the Hall of Fame's board started a fundraising effort to collect $20 million. This money was used to develop the 1844 Seneca Knitting Mill. This mill is connected to the movement to end slavery and the beginning of women's rights. Moving into and completing the first part of the renovation doubled the size of the National Women's Hall of Fame. As of 2021, they were working on the second part of the project. This next phase includes adding an elevator, another staircase, and other updates. Once all the work is done, the historic Seneca Knitting Mill will have four times more space. This will include 16,000 square feet for exhibits, offices, and meeting rooms for events like conferences and community gatherings.
