Boron group facts for kids
The boron group is a special family of elements found on the periodic table. It's also known as Group 13. Most elements in this group are soft metals, but one is different: boron. Boron is a semimetal, which means it has properties of both metals and non-metals.
Meet the Boron Group Elements
This group has six interesting elements:
- Boron: This element is a brittle, hard, and black semimetal. It's used in things like heat-resistant glass and cleaning products.
- Aluminium: A very common, soft, and silvery metal. You see it everywhere, from soda cans to airplane parts!
- Gallium: This silvery metal melts very easily, even in your hand! It's used in electronics like LEDs.
- Indium: A soft, silvery metal often used in touchscreens and solar panels.
- Thallium: This is a very soft metal. It is also highly toxic, so it must be handled with great care.
- Nihonium: This element is man-made and very unstable. Scientists create it in laboratories.
