Contents

Season 1: 2010 – The First Race!

Seven teams of three people each started the very first Great Food Truck Race. Each team had a driver and two helpers who cooked, shopped, took orders, and even did publicity! To make things fair, they always started with no food. The host, Tyler Florence, gave them some "seed money" (starting cash) in each new city.

Meet the Teams!

  • Grill 'Em All – These three friends from Los Angeles loved heavy metal music! They made awesome gourmet hamburgers with funny names like "the hatchet" and "the behemoth."
  • Nana Queens – Sisters Janel and Shanel, with their friend Rick, came from Compton, California. They served tasty hot wings and banana pudding, even using a banana costume to get attention!
  • Ragin' Cajun – This team from Hermosa Beach, California used old family recipes to make real Cajun food. Stephen, Joey, and Jazmin brought their Louisiana flavors to the West Coast.
  • Austin Daily Press – Cory, Amy, and Melani from Austin, Texas started their business by delivering hot, pressed sandwiches late at night.
  • Crepes Bonaparte – Christian, Danielle, and Matthew from Fullerton, California made sweet and savory Parisian-style crepes.
  • Nom Nom Truck – Another Los Angeles team, Misa, Jennifer, and David, specialized in Vietnamese bánh mi sandwiches and tacos. They planned to work with local businesses in each city.
  • Spencer on the Go – Chefs Laurent, John, and Jesse from San Francisco aimed to serve fancy French food. They even set up tables for a sit-down dining experience!

Episode Highlights

Let's Get Rolling (Week 1)

The race began in Los Angeles. Teams got $500 to buy ingredients and then headed to San Diego. This helped level the playing field since some trucks were from LA and had local fans. Many teams had a slow start. Nana Queens had trouble with their propane. Nom Nom Truck made the most profit!

Chile Santa Fe (Week 2)

In snowy Santa Fe, teams got $300. They had to think about changing their menus. Spencer on the Go had engine trouble, which slowed them down. Grill Em All and Austin Daily Press teamed up, thinking two trucks would attract more people.

  • Challenge: Teams had to make a new dish using chili peppers. A local chef secretly tasted them. The winner got to stay in the race! Spencer on the Go won this challenge.

Truckin' To Texas (Week 3)

From snow to Texas sun! Teams got $400. Spencer on the Go called local French restaurants for cheaper ingredients. Nom Nom Truck's plan to partner with local businesses was working well. Austin Daily Press even set up at a little league baseball field and gave some of their profits to the team!

  • Challenge: Teams received a quarter of a cow and had to butcher it to make a new beef dish. A Fort Worth chef secretly judged them. The winner got a special buckle worth $1,000 extra! Grill 'Em All won.

Big Trouble In The Big Easy (Week 4)

Teams got $400 and an extra day for late-night sales in New Orleans. Austin Daily Press and Grill Em All teamed up again. Spencer on the Go waited too long for wholesale groceries and missed sales. A big storm and generator problems also affected sales.

  • Challenge: Teams had 30 minutes to fillet a catfish and create a dish. A local chef picked the best one, winning $500. Losing teams had to fillet 700 pounds of catfish as a punishment! Spencer on the Go won.

Small Town Trouble (Week 5)

In Jonesborough, a town of only 5,000 people, all three trucks had to sell in one downtown spot. They got $400 and an extra day, but people didn't stay out late.

  • Challenge: At a farm, teams had two hours to make a "five-course" meal (bread, beans, potatoes, meat, and dessert) using old-fashioned cooking tools. Two experienced chuckwagon cooks judged. The winner got a spot at a nearby auto show with lots of customers! Grill 'Em All won.

New York Plate of Mind (Week 6)

The final two trucks arrived in New York City. Grill Em All got help from the previously eliminated Spencer on the Go. They got $500 and had to sell $500 in each of the five boroughs (Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Manhattan – where sales needed to be $1,000). The first team to finish raced to the top of the Flatiron Building to win $50,000!

  • Challenge: Teams had an hour to make the other team's special dish for a judge. The winner got a $500 bonus and could skip one borough! Nom Nom Truck won.
