List of world records in masters athletics facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Masters athletics is a special type of track and field for athletes who are older than 35 years. It includes many different events like running on a track, running on roads, and cross country races.

The World Masters Athletics (WMA) group keeps track of the world records for these events. These records are divided into different age groups, starting from age 35. Each new age group begins on an athlete's birthday when their age is a multiple of five (like 35, 40, 45, and so on). Older athletes usually compete only in their own age group or older ones, but in relay races, the team's age group is decided by the youngest person on the team.

Sometimes, for older athletes, the rules for certain events like hurdles or throwing events are slightly changed to make them safer and more fair.
