List of churches in the Anglican Diocese of Leeds facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Anglican Diocese of Leeds is a large area in Yorkshire, England, that includes many churches. This article lists these churches, which are places where people gather to worship and learn about Christianity. The diocese is part of the Church of England.

How the Diocese is Organized

The Anglican Diocese of Leeds is split into different areas to help manage its many churches. These areas are called Episcopal Areas, and each has a Bishop who looks after it. Within these, there are smaller areas called Archdeaconries, and even smaller ones called Deaneries. Each deanery has many churches.

Here are the main areas:

  • Bradford Episcopal Area (looked after by the Bishop of Bradford)
  • Huddersfield Episcopal Area (looked after by the Bishop of Huddersfield)
  • Leeds Episcopal Area (looked after by the Bishop of Kirkstall)
    • Archdeaconry of Leeds
  • Wakefield Episcopal Area (looked after by the Bishop of Wakefield)
  • Ripon Episcopal Area (looked after by the Bishop of Ripon)

Churches in the Diocese

This section lists many of the churches in the Anglican Diocese of Leeds, grouped by their deanery. Some churches are very old, dating back to the Middle Ages. Others were built more recently.

Churches Outside Deaneries

These churches are special because they are Cathedrals, which are the main churches for a bishop's area.
