A National Historic Landmark (NHL) is a special place recognized by the United States government for its amazing history. These landmarks are buildings, sites, or objects that tell important stories about American history and culture. Think of them as national treasures!
Many of these special places are churches. This list focuses on churches that are recognized as NHLs all by themselves. It doesn't include smaller chapels or churches that are part of a larger historic district. There are over 2,400 National Historic Landmarks across the U.S., and a good number of them are churches!
