Historical Moments Before 1900
- 1086 – Tutush, the brother of a Seljuk sultan, won a battle called battle of Ain Salm. He defeated Suleiman ibn Qutalmish, who was a Turkish ruler in Anatolia.
- 1257 – The city of Kraków in Poland was given special city rights. This meant it could govern itself more.
- 1284 – In the Battle of the Gulf of Naples, Roger of Lauria, an admiral, destroyed the Neapolitan fleet. He also captured Charles of Salerno.
- 1288 – The Battle of Worringen ended a conflict called the War of the Limburg Succession. John I, Duke of Brabant, was one of the main winners.
- 1610 – A special show called Tethys' Festival was performed at Whitehall Palace. It celebrated Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales becoming a prince.
- 1644 – The Qing dynasty's Manchu army, led by the Shunzhi Emperor, took control of Beijing. This happened during the end of the Ming dynasty.
- 1794 – During the Haitian Revolution, British soldiers captured Port-Républicain. This was the capital of Saint-Domingue.
- 1798 – An attempt to spread the United Irish Rebellion into Munster failed. This happened at the Battle of New Ross.
- 1817 – The very first steamboat on the Great Lakes, named the Frontenac, was launched.
- 1829 – The British ship HMS Pickle captured an armed slave ship called Voladora. This happened off the coast of Cuba.
