List of people on the postage stamps of the United States facts for kids
This article is a list of famous people who have been honored on postage stamps in the United States. Since the first U.S. stamp was made in 1847, more than 4,000 stamps have been created, featuring over 800 different people. Many of these people, especially early presidents, have appeared on several stamps. Most people featured on stamps were no longer living when their image appeared.
When we say someone is "featured" on a stamp, it can mean:
- Their picture is on the stamp.
- Their name is on the stamp.
- They are the main topic of the stamp, even if their picture or name isn't directly shown. The United States Postal Service confirms this.
