List of road routes in Queensland facts for kids
Road routes in Queensland help drivers find their way across the state. These routes are like special paths that connect different towns and cities. Queensland is changing its road signs to a new system that uses letters and numbers, like "M1" or "A2." The letter tells you how important the road is. Before, signs used different shapes, like shields, to show if a road was a national highway or a state route. Some roads still use the old shield signs, but they are designed to be easily updated later. Special "Tourist Drives" will keep using their shield signs.
Most of the information here comes from Google Maps.

State Routes
State Routes are important roads within Queensland, often connecting towns or different parts of a city. The numbering system changed in the mid-1990s for the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and regional areas. This means some numbers might be used in different parts of the state.
For example, on the Gold Coast, some old route numbers were changed:
- Old 87 became 2
- Old 86 became 10 (to Southport) and 3 (to Burleigh)
- Old 95 became 4
- Old 97 became 20
- Old 59 became 24
-
