List of current members of the United States House of Representatives facts for kids
The United States House of Representatives is a very important part of the U.S. government, where elected officials called "representatives" work together to make laws for the country. Think of it like a big team meeting where people from all over the U.S. come together to decide what's best for everyone.
As of April 24, 2024, there are 435 representatives from the 50 states. The number of representatives each state gets depends on its population, so bigger states have more. There are also six special members called "delegates" from U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. These delegates can speak and work in committees, but they usually can't vote on the final laws. Right now, there are 429 members in total.

Empty Seats in the House

- Ohio 6: This seat became empty when Bill Johnson (Republican) resigned on January 21, 2024. A special election will be held on June 11, 2024.

- Wisconsin 8: This seat became empty when Mike Gallagher (Republican) resigned on April 24, 2024. No special election will be held for this one.
- New Jersey 10: This seat became empty when Donald Payne Jr. (Democrat) passed away on April 24, 2024.
New Members Coming Soon
Sometimes, a new representative is chosen to fill an empty seat before the next regular election. These are called "members-elect."
- New York 26: Tim Kennedy (Democrat) won a special election to take the place of Brian Higgins.
